PILOT CARS? WHAT ARE THEY AND WHAT DO THEY DO?

Purpose and description of pilot cars

Requirements for Pilot Cars:
----Loads that are too wide for certain roads are required to have a pilot car and some are required to have two.

Purpose of the pilot car is to be there when the driver of an oversized or over demensional load is unable to see what is behind him/her

Pilot car drivers:
-----Are dependable and professional people in their field.
-----Are the eyes and ears of the truck driver when he is unable to do that himself.
--------They are to help with situations where the driver can't see the rear of his load.
---------- eg. backing up.
-----Are present for many reasons:
--------To inform the driver and the motoring public of the presence of a load that is wider
-------------than most requiring more room than normal loads do.
--------They are used to direct traffic where needed
--------They help the driver in case of emergency
-----Are able to work as a team communicating with the truck driver via CB Radio
